Oxitec is delighted to announce that its Research Director, Luke Alphey, has been appointed Visiting Professor in Zoology at Oxford University, for 3 years from 1 May 2008.  Oxitec retains close links with Oxford University, and this appointment will help to further strengthen this connection and exchange.  The award is in recognition of Dr Alphey’s contribution to teaching and research.  Dr Alphey was formerly a Reader in Genetics at Oxford University, but is now engaged full-time in directing Oxitec’s world-leading research in insect genetics and its application to the control of pest insects, both agricultural pests and also mosquitoes and hence human disease.
