Dr. Luke Alphey developed novel insect control technology at
Oxford University (patented in 1999; published in Science magazine
in 2000).
2002

Oxitec was founded, based on the above research of Dr. Luke Alphey,
with an equity investment of £1.5 million from Oxford University
and East Hill Advisors.
2003
- Transformation of Medfly and the dengue-carrying mosquito, Aedes
aegypti.
- Collaboration established with the USDA to work on the cotton
pest, Pink Bollworm.
2004
- Transformation of Pink Bollworm.
- Move to purpose-built laboratories and offices in Milton Park,
near Oxford.
2005
- Second round funding of £1.3 million raised from Oxford
University (through the Isis College Fund), East Hill Advisors
and Oxford Capital Partners.
- Contained field trials of Pink Bollworm
in the USA.
- Transformation of the
Mexican fruit fly.
