Ceratitis capitata (Mediterranean fruit fly) OX3647
Product profile
OX3647 is a female-specific RIDL strain. This strain provides separation of the sexes to allow a 100% male release by removal of the supplement from the diet of the final release generation. In addition to genetic sexing the strain may also be used without irradiation for population suppression. Released males will mate with wild females and female progeny will die. Eliminating females will suppress the population. OX3647 contains the heritable fluorescent marker DsRed which is clearly visible in all life stages. OX3647 is a stable strain in which the inverted terminal repeat sequences of the transposon vector system have been removed.

Performance in evaluation
OX3647 has been tested at Oxitec for conditional lethality, marker performance and mating competitiveness and has performed well. Our earlier prototype OX3376 contained a green fluorescent marker and was evaluated for mating competitiveness and mass-rearing performance by the IAEA/FAO entomology lab in Seibersdorf and by the USDA/Moscamed in Guatemala.
