Our targets
Insects spread disease and cause damage to the food we grow. Oxitec is developing new technology to help combat mosquitoes that spread disease and insects that cause severe crop damage. Oxitec’s first mosquito targets are the Aedes mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever, chikungunya and yellow fever across the world. These are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (also known as Asian Tiger Mosquito). Oxitec is starting work on Anopheles mosquitoes that are responsible for Malaria.
We have also developed insect strains for agriculture that will bring greater efficiency, cost savings and environmental benefits to current Sterile Insect Technique programmes and open up major new opportunities for this technique to be extended further to new crops.
