Alexandra Hiscox
Global Technology Portfolio Manager and Program Lead for SparksTM
Dr. Alex Hiscox joined Oxitec in 2025 as Global Technology Portfolio Manager and Program Lead for SparksTM. With over 15 years of experience as a public health entomologist and program manager, Alex has worked across academia and industry and made significant contributions to vector control and public health.
As Co-Director of Social Impact with Arctech Innovation (a spin-out of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), Alex managed a team of researchers to implement projects in the UK and overseas, including field trials in Cambodia and Uganda, laboratory studies in the UK and public engagement and education campaigns. She played a pivotal role in strategic decision making and business development as a member of the company senior leadership team. As a post-doctoral researcher with Wageningen University and Research (the Netherlands), Alex led a multisectoral team to evaluate the epidemiological impact of mass-mosquito trapping for malaria control in Kenya. She successfully secured and led two grant-funded projects to develop spatial repellents and attractants for vector control in Kenya and Tanzania.
Prior to this, Alex obtained a PhD from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with her research focused on the biology and behavior of mosquito vectors in the Lao PDR. Alex currently lives in Brazil with her husband and two daughters.
