Senior R&D Group Leader

Dr Edward Sulston is an experienced Senior R&D Group Leader at Oxitec, leading teams focused on development of novel deployment methods and mass-rearing practices for a number of pest insect species. Edward’s background is in medical entomology, with an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2011) and a DPhil in Zoology from the University of Oxford (2016), in partnership with Oxitec Ltd. Edward has worked at Oxitec for 8 years, holding a number of leadership roles, working closely with production and field teams in the UK, Brazil, US, Djibouti and Panama on Oxitec’s agricultural and public health programmes. Edward’s current role as a Senior R&D Group Leader in the UK is focussed on the development of rearing technology for a number of mosquito species including Anopheles stephensi, Anopheles albimanus and Aedes aegypti alongside methods for field deployment of the Friendly™ insects on an operational scale. Edward is a published author on a number of publications and patents related to Oxitec’s technology. Edward lives in Cirencester with his wife, daughter and son.
