Oxitec’s Friendly™ Mosquitoes Are Protecting Latin America's Largest TV Station

The hot and rainy season has started in Brazil, and the biggest television station in Latin America, with 13 studios and a total area of over 150 hectares, wasted no time in acting. Oxitec’s Friendly Aedes aegypti™ have made their way to Rio de Janeiro and are already protecting Globo Studios.

Globo adopted Friendly™ Aedes aegypti as a safe and sustainable way to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito, seeking to protect the quality of life of its employees and preserve the local environment. Oxitec’s solution will protect more than 6,000 people who work at Estúdios Globo on a daily basis, including the most prominent artists and journalists on Brazilian television.

Our Friendly™ technology solution was chosen by the broadcaster because it fits squarely with the main commitments of its ESG agenda – “to value and protect biodiversity, promote environmental awareness and respect the natural limits of our planet”. By reducing the use of chemical products against pests, which impact people and beneficial insects, Globo was looking to promote the reduction of the carbon footprint of its operations.

This exciting partnership was signed through Oxitec Brazil’s official distributor in Rio, Prime Soluções Ambientais, for the entire 2022-2023 mosquito season.
