FKMCD-Oxitec Mosquito Project Update:
Project Resumes with Location Changes to Target Higher Mosquito Populations
FKMCD and Oxitec today announced that Projects A and B of the FKMCD - Oxitec Mosquito Project have resumed operations with some minor adjustments following a brief pause for Tropical Storm Fred.
Some of the project locations have been moved following the storm to ensure areas with higher Aedes aegypti populations are being targeted by the Oxitec male mosquitoes.
Originally, Project A comprised six release locations. Now that the project has resumed, release sites are located in the following locations: One on Big Coppitt Key and two on Vaca Key.
Other Project A sites on Cudjoe Key and Ramrod Key have been removed, as the sites are no longer needed. Project A consists of single site releases within these areas.
Project B release sites will now be located in the following locations: One on Vaca Key, one on Little Torch Key, and one on Ramrod Key. Project B consists of multiple site releases within these areas.
Public support remains strong and FKMCD and Oxitec appreciate the continued enthusiasm of our project hosts.
FKMCD and Oxitec invite members of the public to visit our website and social media accounts regularly for the latest updates.
