Oxitec Becomes Flyttr

Oxitec Will Become Flyttr, the Leading Global Platform for Sustainable Pest Management

February 12, 2026 (Radford, VA and Oxford, UK).

Oxitec today announced it will become Flyttr™, marking a pivotal evolution from a pioneering biotechnology company into a global solutions platform preparing to lead a new era of sustainable pest management to solve the world’s most complex and rising pest challenges.

Flyttr is launched as pest threats to human health, food security, livelihoods and ecosystems are intensifying globally. Pests claim over a million human deaths per year, threaten the health of billions more, and destroy over 20% of all agricultural output every year, severely impacting food security. As these and other pest threats grow, traditional pest control tools, fragmented approaches and single-intervention strategies are no longer sufficient to deliver effective or sustainable outcomes.

Building on Oxitec’s two decades of leadership, combined with new acquisitions, partnerships and infrastructure, Flyttr will address these urgent challenges by developing, commercializing and rapidly scaling new sustainable products and services needed in major pest and product categories.

“This name change formalizes what Oxitec has become – a global platform capable of developing and commercializing the big breakthrough solutions needed to effectively combat the most important pest threats of our time,” said Grey Frandsen, CEO of Flyttr. “We expect Flyttr to deliver significant developments in multiple product categories, including intelligent pest surveillance systems, Wolbachia and genetic biocontrol solutions, AI models and agents, scaled insect manufacturing, and innovation acceleration for 3rd parties, all of which will give our customers the ability to save lives and improve livelihoods, sustainably. A new era of pest management is here, and we’ve built Flyttr to lead it,” he said.

Flyttr is powered by industry-leading talent from more than 15 countries, state-of-the-art global R&D and commercialization infrastructure, and a network of strong partnerships, making it the world’s first organization capable of ushering in a new era of sustainable pest management at scale. The transition to Flyttr coincides with the addition of new R&D and commercial facilities in Brisbane, Sacramento, Panama City, Kampala, and the Washington, DC area, in addition to Oxitec’s world-class R&D facilities in Oxford, Edinburgh, São Paulo, and Djibouti.

“Building from our history of industrial-scale commercial insect manufacturing, Flyttr now applies our expertise and capacity across multiple verticals to deliver more powerful and environmentally sound pest control where its needed the most,” said Kelly Matzen, PhD, Flyttr’s Chief Technology Officer.
